Psychological Services

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are disorders involving problems with attention span, impulse control and activity level.   Children with ADHD may have trouble concentrating in school, completing tasks, staying seated in class and not disturbing others.  An estimated 3 percent to 7 percent of school-age children have this disorder.  More than half of these children will continue to have symptoms as adults.  Adults with ADHD often have trouble staying focused, trouble with time management and trouble getting organized.  They are less likely to hold full-time jobs, may underachieve at those jobs, and have reduced earnings.

I offer psychological evaluations to diagnose ADHD in adults.  A comprehensive evaluation for ADHD must assess deficits in attention and impulse control as well as rule out other possible diagnoses, such as depression, learning disabilities, and behavior disorders.

An ADHD evaluation includes a clinical history and assessment of current functioning, memory and planning. Psychological tests for intelligence and neuropsychological functioning are administered, along with testing to rule out mood disorders.  Neuropsychological and computerized tests of attention are included.

Tests results and recommendations for treatment are explained in a feedback session.  Individual therapy can be provided as part of the treatment plan. I work closely with psychiatrists, pediatricians and internists who can prescribe medications for the treatment of ADHD.
